Geoff Keighley, người dẫn chương trình và sáng lập ra giải thưởng Game Awards đã công bố các game được đề cử tại giải Game Awards 2021 này, dự kiến phát sóng vào ngày 9/12.

6 Tựa game được đề cử giải Game of The year bao gồm Deathloop, Psychonauts 2, It Takes Two, Resident Evil Village, Metroid Dread và Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart.

Deathloop của Arkane Studios dẫn đầu với 9 đề cử, bao gồm Game of the Year và Đạo diễn cốt truyện hay nhất. It Takes Two của EA và Hazelight cũng được 9 đề cử. Sau đó là Psychonauts 2 của Double Fine với 5 đề cử.

Deathloop và Psychonauts 2 với 14 đề cử tổng cộng đã giúp Microsoft/Bethesda dẫn đầu các nhà phát hành game khác. Đi sau là Sony Interactive Entertainment với 11 đề cử, trong khi đó EA và Square Enix hòa nhau với 10 đề cử.
